Private firms putting money back into community

We’re impressed with the amount of private reinvestment that has been done downtown.

Since Main Street Enid began in 1994, private reinvestment has topped $32.8 million, with $7.3 million of that amount coming this year.

The reinvestment has come from a mix of large projects and smaller ones.

Some of the bigger projects lately include Community Development Support Association’s creation of The Non-Profit Center; Triangle Insurance Co. buying Continental Center South and renaming it Triangle Business Center; Hiland Partners moving to Continental Center North, where Continental Resources was located; and Wymer Brownlee, through One Grand Management, buying One Grand Center, the old First National Bank building.

There have been a host of smaller projects, too, that have helped drive the downtown reinvestment.

Downtown has changed a lot since Main Street Enid was formed. Longtime residents will note a lot of changes to buildings, tearing down facades put up in the 1960s and 1970s and returning buildings to their historic look.

There also are the large public renovation projects that have added to downtown, specifically construction of Enid Event Center and renovation of historic Convention Hall. People who have toured Convention Hall and attended events there rave about the new look of the old building.

It’s an exciting time to be involved with downtown. All the reinvestment has created a downtown we all can look at with pride.
