Enid News and Eagle
ENID, Okla. —
I am writing to comment on two articles to the editor in Thursday’s News & Eagle. I fully agree with them.
Mr. Ron Luper wrote about the park to be built on 30th and Randolph Street. We need another park so they can spend more money.
Austin Wade wrote about the large line at their voting place and had to wait in line a long time. He mentioned the “White Elephant” that’s not used very often.
Jim Humes mentioned the Tri-State (Festival) will be coming to Enid next year and (the people will have) a hard time finding a place to relax and having something to eat. All of the above mentioned problems are something to think about.
How about the T-I-F they talk about. I have a different name for it. It should be labeled “Tax Increased Forever.” I don’t see how the city fathers are going to pay for all this expense they have made. Maybe go to China and borrow some money.
Sometime ago, they had a “Question and Answer” gathering at the Autry building, and my question was “Why can’t we have a street sweeper on the east side of Enid? He (City Manager Eric Benson) informed me it would cost too much money.
With that huge amount of money they spend on “buildings,” it would be a “drop in the bucket” to buy one. Also, for all they are spending, it would be welcomed by all of us on the east side of Enid.
And our streets sure do need a lot of repairs. The time will come when they will have to have a vote on all this spending and I will remember.
But, if the vote doesn’t pass, they will “pass it for us.” So far, that’s the way it has been.
