ENID, Okla. —
On Sept. 19, I was in the parking lot of one of our popular stores in Enid.
I was talking on my cell phone and getting ready to get into my car when suddenly someone came up behind me and grabbed my purse off my shoulder.
I yelled “What are you doing, (as if there was doubt). The young man jumped into the waiting car, with my purse.
I hung up on my friend, Aaron Preston, from the Cherokee Strip and called 911.
Aaron heard me scream and called back immediately, asking if I was hurt or needed the police. Thank you, Aaron.
It was amazing how quickly the first police arrived, followed by others. 911 reacted so quickly and another thanks to people assisting in what could have been a very serious situation.
The Enid Police were caring, polite and concerned for me as the victim and ready to apprehend the predators.
I would like to thank police officer Mike Atchley and to express my gratitude to him and his fellow officers on how they handled the situation.
They made me proud to say they were “my” officers.
I wouldn’t trade Garfield County and the caring people that live here for any other place in the world.
Let this be a warning to others; always be vigilant about what is going on around you even in the broad daylight.
Enid is a safe place to live and shop, so I never considered that while I was on the phone and not paying attention some one could be planning to rob me.
I am fortunate they simply grabbed my purse and ran and did not feel the need to push me to the ground to get to my purse or worse.
