Letter: Our aquifers vs. the pipeline companies

ENID, Okla. — First there was Keystone XL wanting to run an oil pipeline through the aquifer in Nebraska. But, the Nebra-ska Environmental Protec-tion Agency rejected the proposed oil pipeline route. After much delay, the Keystone XL oil pipeline has changed the proposed oil pipeline route to avoid the aquifer in Nebraska.

Now the state of Okla-homa has a Tulsa oil pipeline company wanting to route their oil pipeline through our aquifers in northwestern Oklahoma.

It seems all these oil pipeline companies are interested in saving a few dollars for their route, which is jeopardizing an important aquifer system in northwestern Oklahoma. Can these executive folks not understand that water in more important than oil?

I believe it is time for the city of Enid join with Fair-view, Hennessey, Kingfisher and any other town to bring a lawsuit against the proposed oil pipeline route which impacts our great aquifers. It might cost the oil pipeline company a few bucks more to reroute their oil pipeline to protect our aquifers, but they should certainly not object.
