Letter: Kime’s letter is more spin from city hall

ENID, Okla. — I recently read a letter to the editor from Mr. Steve Kime, director of marketing and public relations, city of Enid.

Noting he is an employee at city hall, I was very interested in his letter.

He states “if the Quality of Life bond proposal passes, then the city sales tax will increase to 8.85 percent as of July 1, 2013.”

He further states “furthermore, there will still be 256 communities with a higher sales tax rate then the city of Enid.”

One fact Mr. Kime failed to clarify is just how large are these 256 communities he speaks of?

According to public records there are only a little over 200 towns in Oklahoma that are over 1,000 population. He is counting every little dust spot on the road that has a zip code.

I believe the following examples are more accurate and certainly more relevant.

Look them up, it’s easy and free: Oklahoma City, 8.375 percent; Norman, 8.25 percent; Broken Arrow, 8.35 percent; Bartlesville, 8.50 percent; Lawton, 8.25 percent; Moore, 8.25 percent; Midwest City, 8.35 percent; Edmond, 8.25 percent; Stillwater, 8.75 percent; Kingfisher, 8.25 percent; Ponca City, 8.667 percent; Dallas, Texas, 8.25 percent.

As far as I am concerned, his letter is just more spin from city hall.

I hope the citizens and voters consider these facts, do we want Enid to be the highest tax rate around?

They can’t keep the parks we already have clean and safe.
