Flu season is almost upon us and already local organizations and medical clinics are gearing up to give out immunizations.
Medical professionals are already advising just about everyone to get the flu shot this season.
The seasonal flu vaccine protects against three influenza viruses that research indicates will be the most common during the upcoming season. After last year’s H1N1 scare, this year’s flu vaccine will also protect against that variety of virus.
Yearly flu vaccines typically begin in September and run through December. It is advised you should get vaccinated as soon as the vaccines are available because the timing and duration of flu seasons vary.
In the next few weeks, the Enid News & Eagle will be publishing advertisements and stories about upcoming clinics as the information becomes available. And, while the health department is not giving out automatic free vaccines this year, the shot is still relatively inexpensive at around $25 to $35 per shot.
Medical officials are recommending everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine; however, as always if you have a question, you should seek advice from your own doctor.
