Residents should celebrate tonight, throughout December

It’s Christmastime in Enid.

Tonight officially kicks off the holiday season with the Enid Lights Up the Plains downtown events and fireworks. We know many families stay in town during the Thanksgiving holiday just so they can be a part of this unique event.

The weather should be decent, so we expect good crowds downtown tonight.

There are several special holiday activities that will take place over the next few weeks that should get everyone into the holiday spirit.

Next week will be First Friday downtown, and it will be a good opportunity to enjoy more of the holiday atmosphere.

There are several activities and performances scheduled throughout the month of December, including a special Gaslight Theatre Christmas presentation of “A Christmas Carol.”

Emmanuel Baptist Church will again present its spectacular Christmas pageant during December. First Church of the Nazarene plans its annual drive-through nativity. Other churches are having special activities and worship events.

Children won’t want to miss Breakfast With Santa, the annual March of Dimes fundraiser. And, adults won’t want to miss the Junior Welfare League holiday event, a fundraiser for several local charities.

Christmas is a busy time, and often a stressful time. But, there are plenty of activities going on in December to help bring us around to the true meaning of Christmas — giving to others.

We hope everyone enjoys a blessed holiday season and also enjoys at least one of the many community events going on in the area over the holidays.
