While Thanksgiving Day officially kicks off the Christmas season, work already is well under way to make sure needy families have a nice Christmas this year.
Oklahoma is starting to feel the pinch of the economy, and its expected charitable giving will be down this year. While Enid made its United Way goal, some individual charities are noticing a very significant downturn in giving.
This could be a real problem for those organizations that are tasked with providing food, necessities and gifts for needy families this Christmas.
When the economy is suffering like this and people are seeing their paychecks shrink, its important now more than ever for those who can to continue to give to charities this year.
It doesn’t have to be expensive. Anytime you pass a Salvation Army kettle and have change, throw it in. If you want to help make sure a hungry child gets some food during the weekend, you can contribute as little as $1 to the Enid News & Eagle Community Christmas Card fund.
Even picking up an angel from the Angel tree does not have to break the bank. Most of those needs can be fulfilled for $25 to $35, and it will make a child’s Christmas so much happier.
We are a blessed nation, and we are a blessed community. In the season of perpetual hope, we look to one another for love, guidance and assistance.
