Deputies are striving for safer roads
Alcohol-related offenses increased significantly this month. We urge citizens to use designated drivers when consuming alcoholic beverages. Deputies made numerous warrant and drug arrests as a result of vigilant interdiction work on county roadways. Burglaries decreased over the month of October, allowing deputies to catch us on investigations on previous crimes.
Halloween surprisingly was calm. We would like to thank all the kids and young adults for being responsible and law abiding over the Halloween weekend. As a result, the sheriff’s office took very few vandalism and other mischievous calls.
Scare on the Square proved to be a good time for all that attended. Deputies and county employees handed out more than 1,500 hot dogs and enough candy to make all the dentists happy.
The sheriff’s office is actively investigating two cases of elderly fraud. More than $100,000 have been swindled by deceiving and conning the elderly. We encourage family members to monitor their loved ones to ensure they are not being coaxed into financial distress. Citizens should be proactive in contacting the Better Business Bureau and seeking current references on all home improvement contractors. We further recommend the public contact the sheriff’s office to ensure no reports or investigations have been conducted on the individual or contractor you wish to hire for your home improvements.
The sheriff’s office would like to extend its greatest gratitude to veterans and those who actively serve in our military. Our freedom today would not be possible if it wasn’t for the dedication and sacrifice of those who serve.
As the shopping holidays rapidly approach us, we want to remind citizens to think smart and safe. Citizens should be aware of their surroundings and cognitive of increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic. You should avoid locking packages up in the vehicle, where they are left in plain view and never leave purses or valuables left unattended.
