Non-Profit Center helping organizations cut down costs

ENID, Okla. — The new downtown Non-Profit Center is open, and the public had a chance to check things out during an open house Friday.

We’re sure they liked what they saw.

Community Development Support Association spent six years creating the facility, starting with CDSA Executive Director Cheri Ezzell’s master’s thesis in 2006.

The concept is simple: Bring community nonprofit organizations under one roof.

And, that’s what happened. CDSA undertook a capital campaign to raise $2.8 million to buy the 50,000-square-foot historic Newman’s Department Store building at 116 S. Independence and renovate it. The building features office spaces, a banquet area, kitchen, training area, reception area and board room.

It is home to CDSA’s 15 community programs, as well as office space for Chisholm Trail System of Care, Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Habitat for Humanity, Goodwill Job Connection Center, 4RKids Foundation and Main Street Enid.

Sharing the building helps nonprofits reduce expenses by sharing a receptionist, telephone system and utilities. Cutting operating costs means the agencies will have more money to do the important work, which is helping their clients.

Having these important agencies in one location is a big help to the people they serve, too. Those in need don’t have to go around town to a variety of places. It’s all under one roof.

The Non-Profit Center opening downtown is another good sign for the heart of Enid, too.

Downtown’s a happening place, with new businesses coming to the area: the Non-Profit Center, the renovations to Convention Hall and construction of Enid Event Center.

We look forward to many years of important service for the Non-Profit Center. Welcome to downtown.
