This letter references the article “Theater of Death” in the July 21, 2012, Enid News & Eagle.
One can and does decry any needless and senseless death and injury, such as this, whether caused by a berserk individual such as James Holmes or a drunken driver.
But be sure as flowers bloom in the spring, the “Brady Bunch” and the other irrational exponents of gun control will start baying at the moon after any such incident.
Please don’t give them ammunition by referring to an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle as an AR-15 assault rifle.
By definition, any assault weapon must be selective fire — i.e., capable of firing in an automatic mode.
This means the weapon will continue firing as long as the trigger is depressed.
The AR-15 does not and cannot do this. It is no more an assault rifle than is grandpa’s hunting rifle.
