Letter: Paper ‘cheerleader,’ ‘lapdog’ of city hall

ENID, Okla. — The editorial in your Thursday, March 7, newspaper, two days after Enid voted on the parks issue, is quite interesting. It seeks to explain why the issue was defeated, and identifies numerous possibilities.

The one omission is the Enid News & Eagle itself.

Enid citizens have noticed, for example, your lack of impartiality regarding the project downtown, your lack of accurate financial reporting of that project and the fact that a private citizen had to pay you out of his own pocket to report something closer to actual fact.

Cheerleader? There is no reason a local newspaper should not support community efforts, but when cheerleader becomes lapdog and all pretense of factual reporting is forsaken, the community notices.

It would be a welcome breath of fresh air if this newspaper begins showing a hint of impartial reporting regarding city hall.
