Hotel plan a big step for Enid

ENID, Okla. — The city has taken a big step forward in its plan to bring a hotel downtown.

City commissioners Tuesday night agreed to pursue a 120-day agreement that could lead to construction of a hotel. The agreement is with LodgeWell Group.

Having a hotel downtown has been a goal of city officials since they started working on Enid Renaissance Project. It would go hand in hand with Enid Event Center and the newly renovated Convention Hall.

A lot still has to be decided, but this is a big step.

The actual location has not been determined, although several locations have been discussed. Potential sites are: where Cherokee Strip Conference Center and the Kress Building currently stand; the opposite corner from the conference center at the corner of Maine and Grand; west of Convention Hall in what now is a parking lot at Cherokee and Independence; and two sites at the corner of Oklahoma and Grand, with one facing Grand and one facing Oklahoma.

Also undecided is what chain will operate the hotel.

Officials with LodgeWell seem to be excited about working with the city of Enid, and have good things to say about the community. They like the things going on in Enid, particularly the work downtown.

We’ll know more in the coming days as plans are finalized, but we think this is a good first step.
