Nominate new Pillar of the Plains

ENID, Okla. — Enid is one of those cities where people always are ready and willing to help out each other and their community.

Many times, those people would rather not have a big deal made about what they’ve done. They would rather their good deeds go unnoticed.

However, sometimes recognition is deserved and something that needs to be done.

With that in mind, the Enid News & Eagle, along with community partners, created the Pillar of the Plains. The award is to honor local people who have been active in the community and have taken on tasks and projects to better the quality of life in our community.

We’re talking about business leaders, community leaders and volunteers who unselfishly give of their time and talents. They are people who show service, volunteerism and commitment to various community endeavors.

Previous Pillars of the Plains are Bert Mackie, Lee Thompson, Janet Cordell, Lew Ward, Dr. Charles Ogle, Becky Cummings, Dr. Jerry Blankenship, April Danahy and Doug Frantz.

Now we’d like to hear from you. If you know of someone you think is deserving, we’d like to know. To nominate someone as Pillar of the Plains, send us his or her name, address or place of business and a phone number. We also need a written summary of what your nominee has done to be deserving of the honor. Finally, we need your name and contact information.

Send that information to Rob Collins, Enid News & Eagle, 227 W. Broadway, P.O. Box 1192, Enid, OK 73702, or email editor@enidnews.com.

We need to have nominations by Dec. 5, so a panel of judges can select the finalists, typically four of five.

The recipient and all other finalists will be honored at a reception in January.
