Garfield County Advocacy Group gets a thumbs up for trying to prevent child abuse

ENID, Okla. — Thumbs up to Garfield County Child Advocacy Council for getting an early start on National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

The council aims to raise awareness through a program designed to prevent child abuse.

For several months, the council has been preparing a visual display of the county’s child abuse victims to be shown in April.

The council has enlisted the help of local students and artists to create 93 wooden child figurines — one for each confirmed victim of child abuse in the county last year.

Thanks for heightening consciousness on this important issue.

Thumbs up for increased demand for travel information about Enid, indicating more interest in the city as a regional tourism destination.

Visit Enid announced demand for Enid travel guides hit new highs in 2013, the third year of publication for the Enid Travel Guide.

Marcy Jarrett, Visit Enid director, said interest for travel guides is one of the indicators used to measure success in delivering Enid’s marketing message.

Way to go!

Thumbs up for a plan to help uninsured Enid adults visit a dentist free of charge.

Word of mouth is the MobileSmiles Oklahoma dental van is coming to Enid Community Clinic April 20.

MobileSmiles Oklahoma is operated jointly by the Oklahoma Dental Foundation and Delta Dental Foundation.

Through the program, two fully equipped “dental offices on wheels” travel the state giving low-cost or no-cost dental care to those in need.

The program will treat people who haven’t seen a dentist in two years or longer.

The exact location where MobileSmiles will set up in Enid has not been determined, but it will be somewhere in the vicinity of Enid Community Clinic.

Finally, thumbs up for the hirsute heroes participating in the Moustache March held Saturday at Government Springs Park.

Seven men named “moustache ambassadors” competed to raise funds for Enid charities.

Congrats to Ward 5 City Commissioner Tammy Wilson, the interesting event’s organizer.
