ENID, Okla. —
Letter: Clearing up issues on OK Jailbirds name mixup
To Cass Rains and the Enid News & Eagle, we say “thanks” for the publicity.
“A tale of two men” was published in a recent edition of your paper. Mr. Rains did a nice job on the story. However, there were some issues we felt necessary to make clear.
The subhead erroneously read “Different men with the same name, middle initial are being listed in OK Jailbirds magazine.” The only one listed was Shaun Hinkle on page 4 of the December 2012 edition. This is Shaun M. Hinkle. Google his name and get his photo and details. He was booked by the Garfield County Sheriff’s office on a complaint of failure to register as a sex offender and driving under suspension.
We do not know Randy Hinkle or Shaun Michael Hinkle, but they have not appeared in OK Jailbirds. Congrats!
Recently, Scott Pruitt, Oklahoma attorney general, ruled mug shots are subject to the Oklahoma Open Records Act.
This issue with the Hinkle family makes us all appreciate the AG’s opinion allowing us to clearly show this person published in Jailbirds is not Shaun Michael, son of Randy. The photograph is the best physical description.
The information in question was published 100 percent accurately. It is common for a person arrested to have multiple alleged offenses.
We choose one offense to list in Jailbirds; otherwise, on some arrests, we’d have to add four more pages to get all the information listed.
We appreciate Enid and Garfield County for the way you have embraced us. We appreciate Sheriff Winchester’s office for the cooperation we receive.
You know, people who are looking for negative will always find it. Those who are looking for positive can certainly find it in OK Jailbirds.
Examples: Missing Children, articles on what the Bible has to say about choices, love, hope, money, parenthood, restitution and other relevant topics.
We are grateful to your paper for publishing the story. We appreciate the publicity. We see it as a good thing you set the story straight regarding who was NOT in OK Jailbirds in December.
