Della E. Nichols

Published 11-13-09

Enid, OK — Memorial service for Della E. Nichols will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel.

Della Eugene Marguerite May Web-ber was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Enid, Okla., to Clarence and Bessie Webber and went to be with her Lord on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009.

She married Warren E. Nichols Sept. 1, 1946. They lived in Texas, where both their children were born. Warren Patrick Nichols was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and Terrie Lynne Nichols was born in Stamford, Texas.

Della and Warren ran an apartment building in Seattle, Wash., for a short time. They later came back to Enid, Okla., where Della worked and retired from the Base Exchange at Vance Air Force Base. She and Warren were members of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Della will be remembered as a loving Christian mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband in May 2003 and will be buried alongside him in Memorial Park Cemterey.

Surviving are one son, Pat Nichols of Edmond, Okla., and one daughter, Terrie Thies of Lahoma, Okla. She had a special bond with her four grandchildren, Todd Nichols, Lindsey Martin, DelRae Cramer and Chad Thies. She also was blessed with five great-grandchildren.

Della was never too tired to play card games or ping-pong with her grandchildren, or should I say she was never too tired to beat her grandchildren at card games or ping-pong. She had a very competitive spirit. Even when she was in the nursing home, she won the walker race two years in a row during the annual “Greenbrier Olympics.”

In her younger years, she loved riding motorcycles cross country with her friends. Even in her 80s, when Terrie would bring her to the house for special occastions, the neighbor boy, Matthew, would ride his motorcycle over and take her for short rides around the driveway. She would never turn down the chance to ride a motorcycle.

Della had a love for people and a zest for life that was admired by everyone. She was stubborn, but sweet and caring at the same time. There are not enough words to describe how immensely she will be missed by her family and friends.

Memorials may be made through the funeral to Parents Helping Parents.

Condolences can be given to the family online at www.enidwecare.com.
