Jahleel Almer Mauk, Sr.

Enid, OK — A graveside memorial service for Jahleel Almer Mauk, Sr., age 101, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Enid Cem-etery with Ray Rose officiating. Arrange-ments are by Ander-son-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.

He was born to William Homer and Laura Anna (Nation) Mauk on March 5, 1908, four miles north of Carrier, and died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at The Commons in Enid.

Jahleel married Pauline Cauthen on Nov. 30, 1932, in Perry, Okla. They were married 50 years when she died in 1982.

He grew up on the family farm, graduating from Hillsdale High School in 1927. He then attended Kansas State A&M; College in Manhattan, Kan., for one year. During his life he worked as a commercial fisherman on Lake of the Woods in Wisconsin, was a fireman/brakeman for the Santa Fe Railroad, worked briefly at Champlin Refinery and was a professional harvester. He drove a truck for Swift & Co. and Grapette Bottling Co. and retired in 1972 after working 19 years for Headlee Oil and Moore Distributing delivering fuel.

His pastimes were fishing, gardening, reading Louis L’Amour books and watching John Wayne movies. He especially enjoyed sharing what he grew in his garden with others.

He was a member of North Garland Church of Christ and later attended Garriott Road Church of Christ. He was a kind, quiet man who loved his Lord, his family and friends.

He is survived by his son, Jahleel A. Mauk Jr. and wife Jane of Sperry; daughter, Shirley Lorenz and husband Jerry of Enid; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Pauline, infant son Ronald Lee, infant great-granddaughter, parents, four brothers and four sisters.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to In Search of the Lord’s Way or Hospice Circle of Love.
