Neal Dean Buckminster

Published 10-30-09

Enid, OK — The funeral for Neal Dean Buckminster, 78, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Ladu-sau-Evans Funeral Home, 2800 N. Van Buren, Enid, Okla., with internment following the service at Memorial Park Cemetery, Enid. The Rev. Charles Smith will officiate.

Neal Dean Buckminster was born Oct. 23, 1931, to Fred and Sybil Buckminster and was raised in the Lahoma community. Dean graduated from Lahoma High School and was a charter member of the United Church of Lahoma. He died at his home in Kingfisher on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009.

Dean courted and married Gloria (Jody) Fowler on April 13, 1952, and they had four children. Dean was a lifelong farmer and rancher and had a passion for Charolais and Saler cattle. Dean was one of the first Charolais cattle breeders in Northwestern Oklahoma. Dean was known for his quality gooseneck trailers manufactured under Buck Manufacturing.

Dean served on Lahoma school board for 19 years before it became Cimarron Public Schools. He helped many area FFA and 4-H members for more than 50 years.

The Green Valley addition was one of the major developments undertaken by Dean to minimize the possibility of school consolidation which was so prevalent at that time. Home-owners have come to enjoy the country living provided by this development whose streets are named after Dean and Jody’s children.

This very caring, giving and selfless individual will be greatly missed by all of the lives he has touched over the years. Dean’s generosity and care for others run through the memories of all those who were privileged to have known him and been part of his life.

Dean is survived by his wife Jody of the home; children, Mitch and Pam Buckminster of Enid, Randy and Jamie Briscoe of Kingfisher and Joe and Sherry Breedlove of Hominy; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and brother Glen Buckminster of Norman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Fred A. Buckminster, and a brother, Jerry Buckminster.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to United Church of Lahoma, P.O. Box 621, Lahoma, OK 73754 or Cimarron Public Schools P.O. Box 8, Lahoma, OK 73754.

Condolences may be emailed to the family at ladusauevans@suddenlink mail.com.
