ENID —
Mary Etta Hutson-Reed rested peacefully and went to heaven on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013.
Her service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
She was born Dec. 4, 1929, to George and Margaret Hutson and grew up on a dairy farm in Fletcher, Okla., riding her horse named “Whisper.”
She attended school in Fletcher. Her daddy always wanted her to tap dance for the company.
Mrs. Reed married Bob King around 1948, and of this union had six children. She is described by her children as “sweet, very giving, caring, and a Christian.”
She attended her sons ball games and sewed clothes for her daughter’s dolls. She was a full-time mother. She enjoyed leading her family to God’s word in their home in Great Bend, Kan.
In 1972, she married Mr. Buddy Reed, and became the loving mother of two more children. In her years with Mr. Buddy Reed, she enjoyed camping, gardening and many outdoor activities. Their home in Enid, Okla., became a place for large Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings.
She enjoyed the companionship of pets. She worked as a grocery checker and lunch server to children.
The grandchildren know of the many banana shakes, lemon cakes, peanut butter balls, and toast with apple butter or honey she provided for them. She played numerous card games and yard darts with them. Most of her grandchildren still enjoy their handmade “Grandma Mary” puff blankets. She also delighted in watching her grandchildren play baseball.
Mrs. Mary Reed was a devoted Christian, raising her children in church. She attended Westside Baptist Church, Davis Park Christian Church, and most recently Chisholm Trail Cowboy Church, which she enjoyed.
Grandma Mary Reed will be missed for her values of forgiveness, loyalty, love and patience to all who knew her. She used her Faith in God to deal with life’s struggles.
