ENID — A private family memorial services will be held at a later date for Jimmie Frances Sears Bryant who was born in Dallas County, Texas, on Nov. 16, 1926, and died on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, in Enid. She was the daughter of James A. Sears and Winnie (Taylor) Sears.

Jimmie attended school in Texas and graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas. She graduated from Texas Woman’s University (TWU). Her mother and three sisters attended or graduated from TWU — no small accomplishment for women of that era. As a senior, she co-authored a book of poetry with classmate Pat Shanks titled “I’ll Never Tell,” which was published.

Jimmie taught in the Dallas Public School system. She was a flight attendant for American Airlines in the days it was based at Love Field.

Jimmie met Joe Bryant on a blind date and married him three months later on March 19, 1950. He was a jazz trumpeter, working his way through Baylor Dental School. After Dr. Joe’s graduation and discharge from the Air force in 1953, they moved to Enid where Joe established his dental practice. Joe and Jimmie raised three children over the years as well as mentoring numerous grandchildren.

Jimmie was a 50-year member of P.E.O. Chapter Q. She and Joe worked with Gaslight Theater. Jimmie’s priority was the happiness of others. She loved her family, friends and Texas bluebonnets.
