Enid,Ok — The funeral for Charles Coval Tharp, 93, of Custer City, will be 10 a.m. today, Nov. 11, 2008, at Independence United Methodist Church. The Rev. Garry Vincent will officiate. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Arrangements are by Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home, Clinton.

He was born April 15, 1915, in Custer City to Harry and Mona Householder Tharp and died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at Thomas Nursing Home, Thomas.

He was raised in Independence, graduating from Independence High School in 1933.

He married Marie Viola Southwell Aug. 8, 1937, in Custer City. He farmed and was a carpenter by trade, building homes. She died Dec. 25, 1998.

He later married Helen Southwell-Roberts Dec. 31, 2005, in Independence. He was a member of Independence United Methodist Church, Senior Citizens Center, and Farmers Union.

Surviving are His wife, Helen, of the home; one daughter, Karen Wherritt of Custer City; two sons, David Coval Tharp of Findlay, Ohio, and James Wesley Tharp of Sunbury, Ohio; one sister, Elizabeth Evans, of Enid; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to his first wife, Marie, he was preceded in death by one daughter, three brothers and one grandson.
