PERKINS —
Calvin W. Ools, 58, of Perkins, passed from this life and saw his Savior face to face on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Service has been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, and a celebration service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, at River of Life Church in Perkins, Okla. Burial will follow in Perkins Cemetery. Public visitation will be 1-6 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater.
Calvin William Ools was born June 22, 1954, in Hobbs, N.M., to Donald and Joyce (Buckmaster) Ools.
He was raised and attended school in Marshall, Okla., graduating from Marshall High School in 1973.
Following his graduation, Calvin married Kim Montgomery. In 1974, they welcomed Kerry D. Ools into the world. Shortly after Kerry’s birth, Calvin married Rebecca Duer, and in 1977, Calvin was blessed by the birth of his first of two amazing daughters, Misty Dawn Ools, followed by Jennifer Lavon Ools in 1979.
Calvin worked in the oil fields for Vaughan Good Oil in Enid for several years before attending barber college in Oklahoma City, Okla., in the late 1980s.
In 1992, Calvin relocated to Stillwater and began working at Taylor’s Barber Shop.
That same year, he was introduced to the love of his life, Nita Nottingham, and two short years later, they were married. In the late 1990s, Calvin and Nita purchased Taylor’s Barber Shop and renamed it Downtown’s Family Hair Care.
In 2010, the Ools sold the barber shop and Calvin began working for his brother-in-law at Nottingham Water Well Service, where he worked until he was forced to retire due to his failing health.
Calvin Ools was a Godly man who loved the Lord. He has attended Solid Rock Church for the last six years and was very active in many of their ministries.
He enjoyed reading the Bible, raising horses and his two dogs Ren and Nehemiah, watching Western movies, playing on his iPad, and keeping in touch with friends on Facebook during his illness.
Calvin was a generous, selfless, kind man who possessed a quiet strength and was known for his wise advice. He truly never met a stranger and would do anything necessary to serve his family and friends. He was the cornerstone of his family and served as a role model for all of his family. Calvin was a man with strong character who remained positive and optimistic at all times. He faced a fierce 23-month battle with cancer. He never complained about how he felt and he never gave up. He considered cancer a win-win situation: If God healed him or if he left this earth for his heavenly home, either way was a victory. On the morning of Feb. 28, 2013, Calvin finished his race early and won his greatest victory.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald S. Ools Jr.; and his grandpa, Walter Buckmaster.
He is survived by his wife, Nita of the Home; three children, Kerry Ools and wife Megan of Stillwater, Misty Bowie and husband Gavin of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jennifer Romine and husband Russell of Mulvane, Kan.; six siblings, Tom Murray and wife Jan, K.O. Ools and wife Dianne, Brenda Grant and husband David, Shelia Waggoner, Twila Smith and husband Tommy, and Cathy Smith; five grandchildren, Kaydan, Zander and Asher Bowie and Evie and Lanie Ools. He also is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Solid Rock Church Building Fund or the Humane Society of Stillwater.
Condolences may be sent to the family via an online guest book at www.pmcfh.com or on facebook at www.face book.com/pmcfh.
