ENID — Memorial service for Delvin Gene Simmons, 68, will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Jackson officiating. Cremation arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.

Delvin was born to Paul and Odessa (Kaiser) Simmons on March 5, 1943, in Beaver and passed away Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at his home in Enid.

Delvin was in the ROTC Program at OSU, and then served in the U.S. Air Force as a meteorologist for 23 years.

On Jan. 25, 1963, he married Geraldine Sutton in Baker, and they celebrated 49 years of marriage.

After his retirement from the Air Force in 1988 as a Lt. Col., he was a teacher at Garber and Kremlin, coaching basketball and baseball. Delvin retired from teaching in 2004.

He enjoyed participating in YMCA Youth Programs, fishing and camping. He was devoted to the sports and coaching of his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  

Delvin is survived by his wife, Geraldine; children, Stacey and Debbie Simmons of Enid, Tamie Simmons of Welton, Iowa, and Tony Lacey of Hemet, Calif.; six grandchildren, Tyler Simmons, Gabe Addington, Trever Simmons, Joey Addington, Kaitlyn Lacey and Mackinzie Simmons; brother, Paul (Reta) Simmons of Lake Villa, Ill.; and sister, Elnita Simmons of Oklahoma City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s or Wounded Warriors.
