MEDFORD — Funeral service for Clifton “Chief” Honeyman will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Medford First Christian Church with Rev. Craig VanDeburgh officiating. Clifton Clare “Chief” Honeyman was born in Medford on Jan. 15, 1921, the son of Clifford and Gladys Hastings Honeyman and departed this life at Wakita Community Health Center on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012.
Chief was a lifelong resident of Medford, graduating from Medford High School in 1939. Chief completed one of the most remarkable attendance records in the history of the Medford School System. He was neither absent nor tardy in 12 years of school work.
Chief proudly served as the Grand Marshall of the Medford Homecoming Parade in 2011.
He and Dorothea Cowger were married at the Jefferson First Christian Church on June 4, 1950, and were lifetime residents of Medford.
Chief, his dad and his brother operated The Medford Ready-Mix concrete business from 1959 to 1962. Chief served as a very dedicated Grant County Commissioner for District 2 from 1962-1982. After this, he worked as a mechanic for local farmers and ran a bulldozer, building terraces. He served as an engineering consultant for several city of Medford projects.
For many years Chief and his family spent the summer months boating and camping at local lakes. Chief and his brother, Bob, enjoyed buying, restoring and selling antique tractors. He was a volunteer firefighter for 20 years.
He was a member of Medford First Christian Church. In his later years Chief enjoyed coffee time and visiting with his many friends at Margies and Smrckas.
Chief was a World War II Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Barnegat as Chief Motor Machinist’s Mate. He proudly served his country from Sept. 30, 1942 until his honorable discharge on Jan. 18, 1946, after receiving many medals and awards. Chief was the last living founding member of VFW Post 5070.
Those preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Dorothea; infant sister, Neva Irene; and brother, Bob.
Those left to cherish his memory are four children, Christa Stout and husband Jerry of Baytown, Texas, Marshall Honeyman and wife Sherry of Tuttle, Mike Honeyman and wife Christy of Medford and Micky Honeyman of Stillwater; nine grandchildren, Sheldon Stout and wife Bethany, Shane Stout and wife Jenni, Ellen Bebout and husband John, Matt Honeyman and wife Nindi, Adam Honeyman, Heather Ayers and husband Chris; stepgrandchildren, Michael Bryan and Alea Rogers and husband Daniel; great-grandchildren, Amber, Ethan, Autumn, Isabella, Zowie, Clara, Anna, Ally, Clare and Gabbie; stepgreat-grandchildren, April, Talan and Taylor; one sister-in-law, Mildred Honeyman; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Medford First Christian Church, Medford Volunteer Fire Department, Medford Ambulance or Miller Ambulance Service. Lanman Funeral Home is acting as custodian.
