Gilbert Duane VanMeter Jr. was born July 7, 1963, to Gilbert Duane Sr. and Lua Ellen VanMeter in Oklahoma City, Okla. On Dec. 4, 2012, at age 49, Gilbert went to his final resting place in the Heavens above.
He graduated in 1982, from Canton High School. He worked at U.S. Gypsum at Southard for 22 years.
Gilbert was a very caring person, and a fighter, and would never give up on anything. He had a huge heart and would help anyone.
He was proceeded in death by one sister, Carolyn Carlisle.
He is survived by his parents, Duane and Lua VanMeter of Canton; four children, Kristen Sullins of Canton, Vincent VanMeter of McQueeney Texas, Katrina Kopf of Canton, and Jenny VanMeter of Canton; three brothers and one sister, John Carlisle of Owasso, Timothy Carlisle of The Woodlands, Texas, Deborah Acord of Canton, and Carl VanMeter of Canton; and five grandchildren, Marci and Kayli Kopf, Nicholas Sullins, Rowdy Robinett, all of Canton, and Raelynn VanMeter of McQueeney Texas.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Canton Christian Church, with Steve Driskill officiating. Arrangements by Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home, Canton.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canton/Longdale Ambulance Service and/or American Heart Association, with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724.
