John “Jack” A. Haworth

ENID — Funeral Services for John “Jack” A. Haworth, 86, Enid, will be Saturday Feb.11, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ted Kuschel officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

John was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Omaha, Neb., to Kenneth and Josephine (Pardoe) Haworth and died Feb. 6, 2012, at his home in Enid.

John grew up in Omaha, Neb. and Spencer, Iowa, and then moved to Enid with his family in 1940. He attended Longfellow Jr. High and Enid High School, graduating in 1944. In 1944 he entered the U.S. Navy and attended San Diego Naval Training Center in California. He graduated first in Radio Tech School, and was sent to Officers Candidate School in Norman. He became founder and editor-in-chief of the Navy newspaper, The Lifeline. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1946. John attended Phillips University and Wichita State University. Later he worked for George E. Failing Co. in Enid as chief photographer. He moved to Wichita in 1953 and returned to Wichita State University. John owned Ken’s Drive Inn with his father. He was employed at Boeing for 21⁄2 years as an industrial photographer. It is there he met Mary Esther Bowles in 1956. John and Mary were married on Dec. 9, 1956. John was recruited by Beech Aircraft in 1957 and became chief photographer and manager of the photo section. In June 1964 he left Beech to start his own photography lab and studio in Wichita.  John returned to Enid in 1974 and enjoyed semi-retirement. For over 10 years, he enjoyed driving a van for Wheatheart Nutrition Program that transported the elderly. He fully retired in 2002.

He is survived by sons, Timothy D. Haworth of Wichita and Bryan E. Haworth and wife Paige of Seattle, Wash.; daughter, Ann M. Priest and husband Ted of  Potomac Falls, Va.; six grandchildren, Allison, Anna, Austin, Lexi, Matthew, and Sterling; sister, Ruth Coppock of Enid and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary.

Memorials may be made to Youth and Family Services with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of the funds.
