ENID — The funeral for Frankie George Sindelar, 80, of Medford, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at First Baptist Church, Medford. The Revs. Bobby Smith and Jim Lady will officiate. Burial will be in Rosemound Cemetery, Medford, with military honors conducted by Vance Air Force Base. Arrangements are by Hills-Ely Funeral Home, Medford.
He was born Sept. 9, 1929, in Newkirk to Antone and Bessie Splichal Sindelar and died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
He graduated from high school in Burwell, Neb. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps shortly after graduation, serving most of his tour of duty in the Territory of Alaska. He was honorably discharged in 1949 with the rank of staff sergeant.
Following his discharge, he went to work for Kan-o-Tex Oil Refinery in Arkansas City, Kan.
He married Helen Selmat March 10, 1951, in Medford. They made their home on a farm northeast of Medford. He also worked as a carpenter and in 2003 was awarded the Grant County Conservation Farming Award of the Year by the Northwest Bankers Association. He served on the Clyde Coop Board, was past member of Moose Lodge and Lions Club. He also was an active member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5070, serving as quartermaster. He also was a member of American Legion. He and his wife were crowned king and queen of the No. 1 Oklahoma Polka Club in 2005. They participated in numerous parades in Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma during their reign.
Surviving are his wife, Helen, of the home; one daughter, Karen Hart of Mustang; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
