ENID, Okla. —
Funeral service for MeRita Ella Smith Hoy will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Church of the Nazarene. Dr. Rev. Judye Pistole, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. A private burial will be held. Arrangements are by Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva.
MeRita Ella Smith Hoy was born Sept. 12, 1911, near Dacoma, Okla.
She met, and subsequently married, Fred Richard Hoy of Covington, Okla. Both were alumni of Northwestern State Teacher’s College.
MeRita quietly said goodbye to this world on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012. She was 101 years, 2 months and 7 days. She left us surrounded by those who love her dearly, and joined 101 years of loved ones who went before.
MeRita loved first her Lord, and then her earthly bridegroom, Fritz.
Following in her footsteps are her daughters, Rona Ellen Hoy LaPilusa and husband Joseph, and Sonna Jo Hoy Russell. Rona and Joe’s children include Marcus Richard and wife Stephanie, Justin Alexander and wife Sarah, Michael Joseph and wife Allison. Sonna’s children are Travis Glen and wife Allison, Clint Richard and wife Cindy, Brady Scott and wife Jennifer and Kaet Elizabeth Russell Ruffner and husband Andy. MeRita has eight great-grandchildren. Remaining are her brother-in-law, Wallace Hoy and Nina, and sister-in-law, Etta Mae Aulick.
Also following are a host of family, friends and caregivers; hundreds of poor, needy and lonely people she so faithfully devoted her life to helping … all of whom she loved with her whole heart. MeRita dedicated her energy to Christian education and work for the Nazarene Church. To highlight her extended community services, she received the NWOSU Alumni Humanitarian Award and recognition as the first Long-term Care Ombudsman in the State of Oklahoma. MeRita Hoy will be deeply missed as we remember her incredible life and legacy.
The family ask that in lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to either the Church of the Nazarene Work and Witness or Presbyterian Hunger Relief Fund.
She often gave this blessing:
The Lord bless thee, and keep thee.
The Lord make his face shine upon thee,
and be gracious unto thee.
The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee,
and give thee peace. (Numbers 6:24-26)
