Ruth Stafford

ENID — Funeral service for Ruth Stafford, of Enid, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at North Garland church of Christ. Wes Cogburn and Gordon Jantz will deliver the service. Burial will follow in Clinton Cemetery under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.

Ruth Stafford was born Alena Ruth Robbins on Aug. 19, 1926, to Eddie Thomas and Gussie Lola (Powell) Robbins on the family farm near Gotebo, Okla. She died Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, in Enid.    

Ruth attended school in Custer City and Clinton. In her early life, she worked on the family farm and at Arapaho County Courthouse.

She married Joseph W. Stafford Aug. 10, 1947, in Arapaho, Okla.

She later worked at University Hospital in Oklahoma City, while Joe attended the University of Oklahoma Medical School. Ruth and Joe moved to Enid in 1960, where he maintained a medical practice until his retirement in 2002.  

She is survived by her sister, Billie Jo Morrison and brother-in-law Roy of Clinton; sons, Bill Stafford of West Plains, Mo., and Tom Stafford of Edmond; daughter, Susie Halstead and son-in-law Martin of Tulsa; four grandchildren, Ed Stafford, Charles Stafford, Angela Morton and husband Andrew of Springfield, Mo., and Bonnie Miller and husband Allen of Dayton, Ohio; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Gaye Stafford; and husband, Joe.

Besides raising her three children, Ruth was very involved with her church and in the community. She was a longtime member of Mary Briggs Evening Lioness Club and Medical Auxiliary. She attended North Garland church of Christ (formerly 8th and Maine church of Christ) for many years. She hosted countless weddings and baby showers and the annual Christmas widow’s luncheon. She loved to sing, and sang at many weddings, funerals and at the nursing homes. Her sweet spirit and smile will be missed by many.
