ENID, Okla. —
An Enid man has been sentenced to 36 months in federal prison for failure to register as a sex offender.
William K. Echols, 28, was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Stephen P. Friot, said Sanford C. Coats, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma.
Upon his release, Echols also will be under the supervision of U.S. Probation Office for 20 years.
According to a news release from Coats’ office, Echols was discovered in Enid by U.S. Marshals after an anonymous tip through the website TipSoft.com. He had been traveling with a carnival around the country, according to the release.
Echols was indicted by a federal grand jury in April 2012 and charged with failing to register as a sex offender. He was required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (Adam Walsh Act) following his 2004 conviction in Trinity County Superior Court in California for molesting a child.
In August 2012, Echols pleaded guilty to the charge in the indictment. He also has four prior convictions for failing to register as a sex offender in Nebraska, California and Oregon.
