ENID, Okla. —
An 8-year-old boy injuried in an accident Friday in Woods County has died of his injuries.
Kaden Dewayne Johnson, of Wewoka, died Saturday at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.
Derek Ray Johnson, 29, of Wewoka, who also was injured in the accident, is in critical condition with head, trunk, arm and leg injuries, according to the report.
The accident happened at 7:30 a.m. Friday on the Dacoma blacktop nearly one mile south of U.S. 64.
According to the report, Derek Johnson was driving a 2007 Dodge pickup north on the Dacoma blacktop when he attempted to pass a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by Bret Thomas Simpson, 46, of Woodland Park. Johnson went off the road, lost control and went into a broad slide. Simpson braked and swerved to the left, hitting Johnson’s pickup, which went off the road, hit a fence and rolled two and one-half times, coming to rest on its top.
Derek and Kaden Johnson both were ejected, according to the report. Simpson was not injured.
According to the report, no one in Johnson’s truck was wearing a seat belt, while Simpson was. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
