Seventeen area high school juniors will attend Oklahoma Girls State today through Saturday.
This year’s Oklahoma Girls State will be at the University of Oklahoma. Girls State is a nationwide program of citizenship and Americanism conducted by the American Legion Auxiliary. The program has been held in Oklahoma every year starting in 1940. College credit is available to participants and the George Nigh Scholarship is awarded to the participant with the highest academic score.
Additionally, one Girls State participant who is a direct descendant of a veteran will be awarded a Samsung Scholarship and be eligible for the National Scholarship competition. Two of this year’s Girls State participants will be chosen to represent Oklahoma at Girls Nation.
The Argonne Unit No. 4 American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring the teens from the Enid area. They are:
• Kylie Castillo, Enid High School. She is the daughter of Curt and Suzi Castillo. She participates in National Honor Society, pom squad, select choir, Big Blue Marching Band, wind ensemble, drama, debate team, National Forensics League, student council and Platinum E Club. She is also a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church youth group.
• Taylor Crismas, Oklahoma Bible Academy.
• Michaela Diedrich, Covington-Douglas High School. She is the daughter of Michael and Teresa Diedrich. She has three sisters. She participates in FCA, FCCLA and NHS. She is a cheerleader and runs track. She plans to pursue a career in psychology.
• Elizabeth Forman, Enid High School. She is the daughter of Daniel and Lori Forman. She loves dancing and being part of theater productions She plans to major in musical theatre.
• Kalli Gruber, Chisholm High School. She is the daughter of Chad and Kelli Gruber. She attends Temple Baptist Church and is involved in softball, basketball, student council and National Honor Society.
• Ashley Haub, Pioneer High School. She is the daughter of Chad and Holly Capra and Gary and Wendy Haub. She is involved in BETA, student council, cheerleading, golf and band. She has been on the superintendent’s honor roll each year. She enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends. She is considering a career in business administration.
• Baleigh Hutchison, Deer Creek-Lamont High School. The daughter of Chad and Stacy Hutchison, she has participated in basketball, cross country and track. She a seven-time all-stater in track and cross country. She is on the superintendent’s honor roll and is a member of FCA, yearbook staff and National Honor Society.
• Taylor Isbell, Waukomis High School. She is the daughter of Travis and Malinda Isbell. She is on the superintendent’s honor roll and participates in FCA, FCCLA, student council and cheerleading.
• Kayla Lovell, Waukomis High School. She is the daughter of Brian and Margie Lovell. She plays basketball and is involved in student council, FCA and FCCLA. She is a member of First United Methodist Church, Enid. She is junior class president and haws been on the superintendent’s honor roll every year. She plans to pursue a career in physical therapy.
• Faith Millard, Pioneer High School. She is the daughter of Martha and Jason Millard. She has two siblings. She is active in 4-H, Beta, and student council. She’s a cheerleader and a member of the high school golf team.
• Bridget Miller, Pioneer High School.
• Candace Ong, Garber High School.
• Hayley Pitts, Cimarron High School. She is the daughter of Lisa Booze and Ivan Juarez. She is active in basketball, FCA, student council and is president of FFA.
• Sydney Postier, Garber High School. She is the daughter of Kevin and Diana Postier. She is active in FCA, FCCLA, National Honor Society, student council, basketball, softball, track and cheerleading. She is a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Breckinridge. She maintains a 4.0 grade point average. She plans a career in medicine.
• Elizabeth Regier, Ringwood High School.
• Wendy Wicker, Covington-Douglas High School. She is active in fast and slow-pitch softball, cross country, track, basketball, cheerleading, student council, FFA, FCA, National Honor Society, academic team and yearbook. She has a 4.0 grade point average and enjoys reading, spending time outdoors and spending time with family and friends.
• Gretchen Wuerflein, Kremlin High School.

Arraignment set for murder trial
