AMES, Okla. —
Ames Fire Department requested assistance from surrounding departments Friday night to help battle a large fire downtown.
The page went out at 9:25 p.m., advising that several buildings in downtown Ames were on fire. A witness who called the News & Eagle said the fire was on the north side of the downtown area.
Waukomis Fire Chief Clarence Maly said reports indicated three buildings were burned down, and firefighters were trying to save the post office.
