Thanksgiving Day dinner turkeys arrive

ENID, Okla. — Knights of Columbus members were dealing with a bunch of turkeys Friday — 370 pounds of them.

They took delivery of the birds late Friday morning from members of National Wild Turkey Federation for their annual Thanksgiving Day dinner.

“They’ve come through as they have in past years,” said Leroy Patocka, financial secretary for Knights of Columbus. “That really helps us out a bunch.”

NWTF officials bought the turkeys at Jumbo Foods then delivered them to Knights of Columbus.

The free dinner will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church’s Leven Center. It is open to anyone in the community.

Last year, the organization served 444 plates, which includes those who came to the Leven Center to eat and meals delivered to shut-ins.

Anyone who wants a meal but can’t come Thursday can call the Leven Center kitchen at 234-6882 on Wednesday to have one delivered.

About 20 members of the Knights of Columbus will spend Wednesday preparing the meal, Patocka said. The meal will include turkey, dressing, potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn, rolls and salad. Women from the Knights of Columbus auxiliary will bake pies for dessert, Patocka said.
