ENID —
A Waller Middle School sixth-grade student was listed in good condition at OU Medical Center Tuesday after collapsing on the sidelines of a football game Monday night.
Brian Skaggs, a spokesman for the EJRT football program, said Tavian Marti, 12, collapsed on the sidelines while watching his teammates play in a football game at Government Springs Park.
Marti was not playing in the game, Skaggs said, because he was unable to pass a physical two weeks ago.
“He wasn’t showing any signs of breathing or a heartbeat,” said Skaggs of Marti, after he collapsed.
Wendy Langshaw, who was at the game and saw Marti collapse, said a nurse from St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center began administering CPR until emergency vehicles were able to arrive.
Langshaw said the nurse kept yelling into the crowd, trying to find any parents or relatives of the boy, but none could be found.
“She didn’t use (any) protective mask or anything,” Langshaw said. “She did what she could for the child.
“She did a really good job to keep that child alive until an ambulance got there.”
Marti eventually had to be airlifted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where he remained on Tuesday.
