The family of a woman injured in a 4-wheeler accident Aug. 17 said the 19-year-old is beginning to show signs of improvement.
Amanda Landwehr was riding on the back of the 2008 Suzuki four-wheeler Aug. 17 when it crashed into a car in the 500 block of West Mulberry. She was ejected and suffered bruised lungs, several large skull fractures and a brain injury.
She was found by Enid Police Department officers lying across the back of the four-wheeler in the 600 block of West Mulberry. She was taken by Life EMS to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and was admitted in critical condition. She remains in the hospital’s ICU.
Landwehr’s stepfather, Kevin Carmichael, said Monday the family is seeing improvement in her condition.
“We’re having good steps and good days. The swelling is starting to go down,” he said. “She acts like she’s trying to come out but she’s not here yet.”
Carmichael said he and the family wants to thank the community for its prayers.
“We wanted to make sure we thank everyone for their prayers and we appreciate everything,” he said. “She’s getting better every day.”
He said Landwehr may be moved from the hospital’s ICU today or Wednesday.
Kyle Ray Shepard, 20, was driving the 4-wheeler when Landwehr was injured and subsequently was charged with felony counts of DUI involving great bodily injury and possession of a controlled dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of park and a misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
He is free on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled for a bond appearance Sept. 20.
