ENID, Okla. —
Sixteen local businesses that sell tobacco products all refused to sell to minors during compliance checks conducted by PreventionWorkz.
“We had 100 percent compliance, which is very important because any county who drops below 80 percent stands to lose several million in government dollars,” said prevention specialist Meri Spurlock.
The tobacco outlets checked are:
• Gas and Go, 713 S. Oakwood.
• One Stop Shop, 1606 W. Willow.
• Holding’s, 3017 W. Garriott.
• C Store, 4125 W. Garriott.
• Tammy’s Store, 904 N. 10th.
• Hi Mart, 2320 W. Willow.
• Murphy USA, 612 S. Garland.
• Maine Street Mini Mart, 1602 E. Maine.
• K-Store, 3205 N. 4th.
• Walgreens, 929 W. Garriott.
• Lahoma Corner Store, U.S. 412 and Stabe Road.
• Jumbo Foods, 2311 W. Willow.
• Lucky Food Mart, 802 E. Broadway.
• Mac’s Mart No. 2, 431 E. Broadway.
• Holding’s, 1601 E. Chestnut.
• Lahoma Stop, 202 E. Lahoma Road.
PreventionWorkz sent youth ages 15 and 17 into tobacco outlets who attempted to purchase tobacco.
If the youths are asked to show I.D., the Reward Reminder Visit is considered a success and the clerk has a chance to win a $20 gift card provided by PreventionWorkz.
“Fortunately, all 16 clerks asked for I.D.,” Spurlock said. “We encourage all tobacco outlets to have strong policies against selling tobacco to minors and to continue to provide their clerks with good training in checking IDs.”
