Woman killed in multi-vehicle collision

ENID, Okla. — A 73-year-old Chester woman was killed Monday night in a three-vehicle collision about three miles west of Fairview on U.S. 60.

Kathern M. Unwin was pronounced dead at the scene of the 7:30 p.m. collision, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Unwin was westbound in a 2010 Chevy Avalanche when it was struck head-on by an eastbound 2011 Chevy pickup driven by Shane T. Morgan, 41, of Cushing, according to an OHP report.

Morgan and his two passengers, Steven S. Hermann, 37, of Chandler, and Mark A. Adkins, 29, of Perkins, refused treatment at the scene.

According to the report, Morgan’s vehicle crossed the centerline for an unknown reason, striking Unwin’s vehicle.

Morgan’s vehicle was pulling a trailer that then lost part of its load, which struck a 2008 Kenworth semi driven by Edmond D. Smiley, 44, of Lousiana. Smiley was not injured.

According to the report, Unwin was pinned for about two hours before being extricated by Fairview Fire Department.

The cause of the collision and Morgan’s condition at the time remain under investigation. Seat belts were in use by all involved.
