The Cherokee Strip Piecemakers Quilt Guild will meet Monday at Central Christian Church, 1111 W. Broadway. Registration and hospitality are 6-6:30 p.m., with a short business meeting to follow.
The Piecemakers are honored to host Dick Cooper as he takes us on a journey describing how cotton from the field becomes the fabric in that beautiful quilt. Mr. Cooper grew up in Ames and currently lives with his wife Vicki in Liberal, Kan. Dick graduated from OSU with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture education and has worked for regional agricultural cooperatives for the past 35 years. He is employed by Plains Cotton Cooperative of Lubbock, Texas, as director of business development. Mr. Cooper serves on the board of the Kansas Cotton Association and is marketing delegate to the National Cotton Council. He also is Project Manager for research funded in Kansas by Cotton Incorporated and is a member of the Kansas Cooperative Council.
His program, “Cotton — Field, Fabric and Fashion,” will provide a biography of cotton genetics, production and harvesting to ginning, marketing and manufacturing. This is a very informative program that all fabric lovers will enjoy.
The guild’s mission is to preserve the heritage and art of quilting, to be a source of information, education and inspiration, and to be a gathering place for people with a common interest. Guests of all skill levels are welcome.
