Donations sought for Easter egg hunt

ENID, Okla. — Donations are being sought for a community Easter egg hunt to be held March 30 at Sandbox Learning Center.

The Cindy Riggs Memorial Easter Egg Hunt is slated for 1 p.m. March 30.

Although Sandbox Learning Center has hosted community Easter egg hunts in the past, this year’s event is the first one to be named in honor of an employee, whose love for Easter egg hunts inspired her to take a central role in the nonprofit child care center’s holiday celebration.

“Cindy was an employee of ours,” said Shannon Hurst, executive director of Sandbox. “She passed away a year ago this month, so last year we didn’t get to have the Easter egg hunt.”

Hurst said Riggs not only loved organizing Easter egg hunts for the youngsters of the community, her entire family helped out , including her husband, Mike Riggs, her children, Drew Riggs, Rebecca Riggs, and Kevin Riggs, and her mother, Phyllis Blazier.

The Easter egg hunt has been renamed in memorial to Riggs, Hurst said.

Donations are being sought to help defray the cost of the candy and prizes, said Jessica Blanchard, president of Northwest Oklahoma State University-Enid Psychology Club. The student organization is assisting Sandbox with the Easter egg hunt.

Blanchard said donations of both candy and cash to buy prizes are encouraged. Donation boxes are located at the NWOSU-Enid office, in the nursing department, and also in the psychology department.

Cash donations can be given to staff in the psychology office, or donors can call Blanchard at (580) 395-0725.

Donations also can be taken or mailed to Sandbox Learning Center, 411 E. Illinois.

Hurst said the Easter egg hunt is open to all preschool children in the community old enough to bring an Easter basket and enjoy hunting eggs.

“The only thing we ask is that they take their prizes out of the eggs and leave the eggs,” Hurst said. “Come out and have a good time with us. Walgreens Easter Bunny will be here for pictures with the kids.”
