ENID, Okla. —
Northern Oklahoma Development Authority, Area Agency on Aging is holding ombudsman volunteer training at 9 a.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Volunteers are needed for the Ombudsman Program in Garfield County, as well as Kingfisher, Blaine, Major, Alfalfa, Grant, Kay and Noble counties.
Ombudsman volunteers advocate for residents in long-term care facilities. They are asked to visit residents for two hours weekly and attend a monthly volunteer meeting. Volunteers are needed since many residents in nursing homes and assisted living may not have visitors or someone to speak up for them. Statistics show around 60 percent of nursing home residents never have any visitors.
The training will be held in the NODA conference room at 2901 N. Van Buren, and will cover senior issues, resident’s rights, nursing home laws and advocacy methods.

Donations being taken for tornado victims
Donations can be made by visiting www.redcross.org or $10 can be donated by texting “REDCROSS” to 90999. The donation will be added to your monthly cell phone bill. Monetary donations are being taken at the Red Cross office, 1023 West Elm, in Enid. A supply drop-off is at 2811 W. Garriott.
