Information on death of inmate won’t be released at this time

ENID, Okla. — Further information about the death of a Kingfisher County inmate Monday night won’t be released until charges are filed or an arrest is made.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown said there was no further information about the case being released.

“There is a lot of investigating to do in the meantime,” she said.

Brown said in a media release Tuesday OSBI was requested to investigate a possible homicide of William David Mallory.

The 38-year-old was found dead inside his cell in Kingfisher County Jail at about 8 p.m. Monday. The medical examiner’s office will determine cause and manner of death.

Brown said in the release OSBI agents have collected evidence from the crime scene and interviewed “numerous inmates” in the area at the time of Mallory’s death.

Mallory was booked into the Kingfisher County Jail Sept. 24 on a complaint of larceny from a retailer. He was housed in a cell that was open during the day to a common area for inmates.

Sheriff Dennis Banther referred questions concerning the investigation to OSBI officials.

“It’s still in the investigation process,” he said. “It’s still in the early stages.”

Banther said the jail population was about 30 inmates at the time of Mallory’s death.
