ENID —
An Enid businessman remains in critical condition after fireworks exploded in his face early Sunday morning.
T.J. Silver, 40, was trying to light a short fuse when it prematurely blew up, severely injuring him, according to Garfield County Undersheriff Jerry Niles.
The accident happened at 4710 E. Fox Dr.
Silver was transported by private vehicle to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center at about 12:20 a.m. Sunday and was met at the hospital by sheriff’s deputies, Niles said.
A spokesperson at Life EMS said the ambulance service did not receive any injury calls at that time; however, St. Mary’s did call at about 2 a.m. Sunday to ask about transporting a trauma patient to Oklahoma City. The attending physician opted to Medi-Flight the patient instead.
Friends who called the News & Eagle Sunday afternoon said Silver was taken to OU Medical Center, where he underwent reconstructive surgery. He may have lost at least one eye, friends reported.
A spokesperson at OU Medical Center said Silver remained in critical condition Sunday night.
Silver is co-owner of the Enid motorcycle shop Cycle Ward with his wife, Misty.
