3-vehicle crash closes U.S. 270

U.S. 270 south of Watonga was closed for more than three hours Monday following a three-vehicle accident that sent three people to the hospital.

One person, Adriana Benton, 1, of Seiling, was hospitalized in stable condition at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City with head, trunk, arm and leg injuries, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.

The others injured, Alisun Kaylene Little Coyote, 21, of Seiling, and Bobby Lee Pingleton, 56, of Binger, were treated at Watonga Hospital and released. Benton was a passenger in Little Coyote’s vehicle.

The accident happened at 9:46 a.m. on U.S. 270 two miles south of Watonga.

According to the report, Little Coyote was driving a 2007 Ford 500 south when she hit a 2004 Chevrolet pickup, spun into the northbound lane and was hit by a 2011 Mack truck driven by Pingleton. The Chevrolet pickup was stopped as part of  construction work on the road, according to the report, and the driver, Melvin Dean Carr, 54, of Oklahoma City, tried to flag down Little Coyote before the accident.

Carr was not injured. Another passenger in Little Coyote’s vehicle, Ariauna Benton, 6 months, of Seiling, also was uninjured. Everyone in Little Coyote’s vehicle was using a seat belt or child restraint, according to the report.

The cause of the accident was listed as “inattention-distraction inside vehicle.”

The highway was closed from 10:46 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
