A Watonga man was killed Friday evening in a two-vehicle accident on Oklahoma 51A in Blaine County.
Donal Paul Doyel Jr., 51, was pronounced dead at the scene with massive injuries, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.
A passenger, Joshua Don Doyel, 24, of Canton, was admitted in stable condition to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City with head and leg injuries, according to the report.
The driver of the other vehicle, Katy Lee Edingfield, 23, of Fairview, also was admitted in stable condition to OU Medical Center with trunk injuries.
The accident happened at 5:42 p.m. on Oklahoma 51A three miles south of Southard.
According to the report, Edingfield was driving a 2013 Chervolet Equinox south on Oklahoma 51A when she entered the northbound lane to pass a semitrailer. Doyel, driving north in a 2007 Chrysler, swerved to the right and went off the road to avoid a collision. Edingfield also took evasive action, swerving left and hitting Doyel’s vehicle head-on, according to the report.
Edingfield’s vehicle tipped onto its side, and Doyel’s rolled onto its roof.
Edingfield was wearing a seat belt, while Doyel was not, according to the report, which listed the cause of the accident as “left of center in marked zone.”
