ENID, Okla. —
A 41-year-old Enid man critically injured March 6 after his truck struck a tree in the 1500 block of West Oklahoma died Thursday.
A memorial service for Montra “Monty” Curtis Smith will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Bruce Johnson and chaplain Bill Hane will officiate, with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.
Smith’s death is the third traffic-related fatality in Enid this year.
Smith was found by emergency personnel when they responded to an 8:40 p.m. 911 call March 6 of an injury collision involving a vehicle striking a tree.
Enid Police Department officers, along with Enid Fire Department and Life EMS personnel, arrived on scene to find a 2006 Nissan facing south against a tree on the southwest side of Oklahoma.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Smith, suffered a serious head injury in the collision. Emergency personnel could not find a pulse for Smith and began administering CPR. Smith was taken to Integris Bass Baptist Health Center by Life EMS.
Traffic officer Casey Von Schriltz investigated the collision and found Smith was traveling westbound on Oklahoma and crossed left of center, striking an unoccupied and legally parked car on the south side of Oklahoma.
After striking the parked vehicle, Smith’s Nissan continued west, leaving the road to the south and coming to a stop after striking the tree. Von Schriltz also noted an odor of an alcoholic beverage about Smith, according to an EPD report.
Smith is survived by his wife, Tisha, and son, Owen.
