NOC Enid slated to host Murphey in concert Thursday

One of the country’s favorite singing cowboys has teamed up with portrait artist Vaughn Wilson on his tour for his new book.

The duo is coming to town for Michael Martin Murphey’s performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Briggs Auditorium on the Northern Oklahoma College Enid campus and will be signing copies of “Tell Me about that Horse,” together after the show.

Murphey’s last two CDs, “Buckaroo Blue Grass” and “Buckaroo Blue Grass II,” feature on their covers the photographs Wilson took for his book, “Tell Me about that Horse,” which shares 40 profiles of well-known horse lovers. The cover image is an oil painting Wilson did of Murphey and his horse “Wildfire,” named after his hit record of the 1970s.

“I think the book will be a good read for most anybody who likes a good story. Of course, horse people will enjoy the book for obvious reasons, but you don’t have to be a horse lover to be a good candidate for this book,” Wilson said.

Wilson’s work can be seen all over the country in places such as Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, National Cowgirl Hall of Fame and Museum in Fort Worth, Musicians Hall of Fame in Nashville and Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame in Fort Worth. He lives in Petal, Miss., with his wife Valerie and daughter, Emily.

Murphey has made more than 35 albums and is in the Western Music Hall of Fame. His hit “Wildfire” is one of the most played songs in the history of radio. He has won numerous awards and honors from such organizations at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, Academy of Country Music, The Grammy Awards, Country Music Association Awards and more.

Murphey and his family call Texas home.
