A fire Friday afternoon severely damaged the home of a Garber woman.
Garber Fire Chief Reese Wedel said the fire, which occurred at 1:45 p.m. at 315 E. Osage, caused $30,000 to $40,000 in damage to a two-story home.
Fire crews from Garber, Fairmont, Covington, Breckinridge and Hunter responded to the fire.
Wedel said the fire started in cushioned chair in the living room of the home, but it was unclear what had started the blaze.
“It wasn’t an electrical problem by (any) means,” Wedel said.
Wedel said he only knew of a woman who was living in the home, but he didn’t know if there were any other people staying there at the time.
The woman was out of the house when the fire started.
Wedel said American Red Cross is providing a place for the woman to stay, as the home is currently unliveable.
