BREAKING NEWS: City to hold meeting to discuss repealing livestock ordinance



Enid City Commission has called an early-morning special meeting Monday to repeal the city’s current controversial livestock ordinance and reinstate several sections as they existed prior to Nov. 10.

The meeting will be held at 8:15 a.m. in the council chambers at city hall.

According to the agenda item, the mayor and board of commissioners will meet to discuss an ordinance repealing City of Enid Ordinance 2009-27; reinstating Enid Municipal Code, 2003, Title Five, entitled “Public Safety,” Chapter Seven, entitled “Animal Control,” Section 5-7-4, entitled “Keeping of Swine” as that section existed prior to Nov. 10, 2009; re-instating Enid Municipal code, 2003, Title Five, entitled “Public Safety,” Chapter Seven, entitled “Animal Control,” Section 5-7-10, entitled “Keeping Livestock” as that section existed prior to Nov. 10, 2009.

“It looks like they are repealing what they did on Nov. 10 and taking it back to the way it was,” said Carol Lahman, who has launched a movement to get a referendum petition to call for a vote on the ordinance.

Lahman said she is optimistic that if the city does repeal the ordinance, she can get a community group together to try to work with the city to clean up the most severe problems and help educate livestock owners on best practices in keeping livestock in a safe and healthy manner.
